Maybe there are some teeth in the push for legalization and sensible federal regulation of the Internet gambling industry after all. Sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) — chairman of the House Financial Services Committee — HR 2267 is a bill designed to establish federal oversight of an online gambling industry that currently resides in murky legal waters for U.S. players. It passed overwhelmingly 41-22 via committee vote last week, advancing the legislation to the House floor, where it hopefully will be voted on before the end of the 2010 session. If it gets that far, it will be the...

Anyone have any insiders scuttlebutt of Netflix POV on USPS losses?

Does anyone have any knowledge of what the thinking at netflix is, in regards to USPS's losses, their threat to cut Saturday feliveries, and possible postage tate hiles? Is Netflix taking this as a wake-up call to start hot footing their efforts to move more of their content onto their online 'Watch Instantly' libraries, and away from their DVD delivery service? IMO they really need to develop this method with all due speed. And not just because I prefer my content from online, but because it may soon be their best, if not only option that they can reasonably profit...

LONDON – It has no headquarters and its public face — a wiry, silver-haired Australian with a physics Ph.D. — carries his desktop computer in a backpack as he moves from place to place. WikiLeaks is a bare-bones organization on a mission to root out the secrets of the high and mighty, from Sarah Palin to the Church of Scientology. Its founder, Julian Assange, said his group's biggest coup so far — the publication of tens of thousands of classified U.S. military reports on Afghanistan — will likely unleash a new wave of leaks. "It is our experience that courage...

Vanity - Online Voting in the pipeline for Military Voters

Tuesday 7th of September 2010 09:40:52 AM

Just got off the phone with a longtime customer (a County Clerk in Texas) and was told of a program that is in the planning stages for Military voting procedures. HAVA (Help America Vote Act) and the EAC (Election Assistance Commission) play a large part in how BBM (Ballot by Mail) materials are printed and distributed to voters. According to my source, a federal representative of the HAVA accidentally let slip that HAVA are working on a process that would allow Military voters to a). request a ballot by mail via email b). be able to send the (voted upon)...

Our complex system of usernames and passwords is astoundingly outdated and increasingly prone to security breaches and theft. Yet, so far it has been mostly up to the individual to protect himself against various forms of identity fraud—with larger corporations taking relatively little responsibility.

Cyberspace has become an indispensible component of everyday life for all Americans.  We have all witnessed how the application and use of this technology has increased exponentially over the years. Cyberspace includes the networks in our homes, businesses, schools, and our Nation’s critical infrastructure.  It is where we exchange information, buy and sell products and services, and enable many other types of transactions across a wide range of sectors. But not all components of this technology have kept up with the pace of growth.  Privacy and security require greater emphasis moving forward; and because of this, the technology that has brought many...
